Visiting Blackpool Illuminations

Have you ever visited Blackpool’s iconic light display known as the illuminations? If your answer is no, you need to be asking yourself why not! The display of over 1 million light bulbs stretches for 6.2 miles down Blackpool’s beautiful coastlines, right the way from Star Gate in the South to Bispham in the North. When the lights get switched on in the Tower Ballroom, It’s the event of the year that you don’t want to miss!

This year the iconic switch is being pulled by no other than Comedian Johnny Vegas! Johnny will be in the Tower Ballroom on the 2nd of September, and he’s announced, “as a northerner through and through, it is a real honour to be asked to switch on the iconic illuminations”. The switch shall be pulled at the end of the live concert known as the switch on event, where performances will be made by the likes of Mae Muller, Tom Grennan and will be headlined by the iconic British boy band, Blue! More of the acts for the night are due to be announced closer to the time. MTV will be streaming the whole night, hosted by their lead presenter, Becca Dudley.

Are you currently booked to stay at either the Park House or the Doric Hotels over the weekend starting Friday the 2nd of September? If you are, we highly recommend viewing the iconic light display that will be right on your doorstep! Spanning over the course of 140 years since 1879, they have been lighting up Blackpool for many years and many more to come! A huge, well-known part of the illuminations are the Tableaux, a mixture of old and new attractions for a lovely walk down memory lane (as well as the promenade!). From the Adventures of Noddy, to Alice in Wonderland, To pirates and a haunted house… there’s certainly something for the whole family. They are situated at the North Shore end, starting at Bispham, and finishing outside of the Doric Hotel. What better view to have outside your window?

The illuminations are Blackpool’s most iconic event of the year and one you don’t want to miss!
